پاکستانی نوجوانوں پرسوشل میڈیا کے اخلاقی و سماجی اثرات :ایک تجزیاتی مطالعہ: Ethical and Social Impacts of Social Media on the Pakistani Young Generation: An Analytical Study | Al-Aasar
Abstract
Abstract
Social media now occupies a central place in digital communication and has reshaped the moral and social experiences of young people. In Pakistan, widespread engagement with Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter) has altered patterns of interaction, access to information, and value formation. This article examines how these platforms influence Pakistani youth, considering their constructive and harmful consequences through analytical and Islamic ethical perspectives. A descriptive-analytical approach was employed. The discussion draws upon the Holy Qur'an and Hadith, classical and contemporary Islamic scholarship, academic books, peer-reviewed studies, and relevant institutional reports. These materials were reviewed and interpreted to evaluate changes associated with social media in young people's conduct, family life, social values, and everyday practices. The findings indicate that social media promotes education, knowledge sharing, religious awareness, professional development, and civic participation. However, excessive and irresponsible use contributes to misinformation, cyberbullying, privacy violations, unethical content, time wastage, and weakened family and social relationships. The study concludes that social media is a valuable resource when used responsibly and in accordance with Islamic ethical principles. It recommends strengthening digital ethics, media literacy, and responsible online behavior through the collaborative efforts of families, educational institutions, religious scholars, and policymakers to ensure the positive use of social media among Pakistani youth.
