فضائلِ اہلِ بیتؓ سے متعلق موضوع روایات: ایک تحقیقی و تنقیدی جائزہ: Fabricated Narrations Concerning the Virtues of Ahl al-Bayt: A Critical and Research Based Study | Al-Aasar
Abstract
Abstract
The virtues of the Prophet’s Household (Ahl al-Bayt) hold a central and honored place in Islamic teachings and are firmly established through the Qur’an and authentic Prophetic traditions. Numerous Qur’anic verses and rigorously authenticated Hadiths affirm their exalted status, spiritual excellence, and the obligation upon Muslims to love, respect, and uphold their rights. Despite this well-established foundation, the corpus of Hadith literature also contains a considerable number of fabricated (mawḍū) narrations that were falsely attributed to the Prophet (peace be upon him) concerning the merits of Ahl al-Bayt. These fabrications emerged due to a variety of political, sectarian, ideological, and at times emotional motivations, particularly during periods of intense theological and political conflict in early Islamic history. Such reports not only compromised the authenticity of the Hadith tradition but also contributed to misunderstanding and status of Ahl al-Bayt.
This study critically investigates selected fabricated narrations related to the virtues of Ahl al-Bayt by employing the established principles and methodologies of Hadith criticism. It examines their chains of transmission (isnad), textual content (matn), and the judgments of classical and contemporary Hadith scholars concerning their authenticity. Furthermore, the study highlights the distinction between authentic virtues, which are abundantly established in reliable sources, and fabricated reports that were later introduced into the tradition. The findings demonstrate that the authentic narrations concerning the virtues of Ahl al-Bayt are sufficient to establish their eminent status, rendering fabricated reports both unnecessary and harmful. The study concludes that strict adherence to the principles of Hadith criticism is indispensable for safeguarding the integrity of Islamic teachings, promoting scholarly objectivity, and presenting an accurate and balanced understanding of the noble status of Ahl al-Bayt.
