Abstract
Abstract
This study assessed phytochemicals analysis and Antidermatophytic activities of some plant extracts, namely, those from Sage, Soso, Harwatsi, and Yadiya against dermatophytes Trichophyton interdigitale and Trichophyton rubrum. Leaves of plants were collected during the rainy season in 2022 and were subjected to ethanol, acetone, and water extractions. Phytochemical analysis revealed secondary metabolites such as saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and phenols among the different plant species in varied concentrations. Antifungal activity was determined by the agar well diffusion method, which is used to determine the growth inhibition of fungi. The MICs for each plant extract against the fungal pathogens were determined. The results indicated that the ethanol extract of Yadiya exhibited the most potent antifungal activity against both pathogens, especially T. rubrum, with MIC values of 62.5 mg/ml and 0.0 mg/ml for T. interdigitale. Other plant extracts, including that of Sage, have shown limited or no antifungal activity. The work has identified some plant extracts that can be useful in combating the infections brought about by dermatophytes
